There are many ways that people and organisations support the Insurance Museum, beyond making a financial donation. We’d like to use this as an opportunity to give a “Shout Out” to those who have helped us along our way over the past five years. In-Kind support enables us to get professional support in the way of advice and workflows that are crucial to the operation and growth of the Insurance Museum. There are four organisations we would like to highlight, the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), OB Brand Consulting, AMS Outsourcing and the IRLA.
The Chartered Insurance Institute
Our longest running supporter is the Chartered Insurance Institute. In fact, the concept of the Insurance Museum came out of the CII when it moved its office from Aldermanbury and there was a question around what to do with its collections of heritage items. In February 2020 the IM was established as a charitable incorporated organisation and has been registered at the CII since then. CII staff and members are IM Trustees, as well as a CII past president, Reg Brown, who is currently the IM Chair. We are constantly sharing ideas and approaches with the CII and are planning to work with them in the future as we develop the education programme and joining up with the CII careers programme.
OB Brand Consulting
OB Brand Consulting has been a committed partner of the Insurance Museum (IM) since 2019, initially commissioned by the CII to develop the IM proposition and deliver its feasibility study. They went on to build market profile and support, produce the IM’s business plan — coinciding with the challenges that Covid brought.
Since then, OB has provided ongoing support across brand, communications, picking up the curation and delivery of the digital Fire Galleries. They continue to drive promotion through social media, newsletters, advertising, press, events and remain an enthusiastic and valued part of the team. Their creativity and commitment have been instrumental; the IM simply wouldn’t be where it is today without them.
“We work with a number of companies across the insurance sector, so when asked to help shape the IM’s proposition, we understood the market opportunity for this. We’re proud to support the IM’s mission to share the incredible story of insurance, educating and inspiring wider audiences and future talent; and look forward to our continued collaboration.”
Jon Squirrell, Director, OB Brand Consulting
AMS Outsourcing
AMS (Outsourcing) has supported the IM over the past year by administering our invoice system. I am sure you can imagine, keeping up to date with invoicing for our donations, as well as the income generating tours and webinars is crucial.
“AMS (Outsourcing) has worked in the retrocession market for 26 years, and some staff for almost double that. As such we believe that history is very important to our new professionals who quite often have never even seen an insurance policy. We totally support IM in all that it is doing and look forward to future collaboration.”
Leslie-Ann Giovnilli, AMS Outsourcing
IRLA
IRLA, the Insurance and Reinsurance Legacy Association, has kept us busy over the past year. They regularly book our tours and presentations for their Members’ workshops and events. Through the tours, we have met with a range of professionals from both insurance and banking and have had a great time explaining the insurance history of London and beyond. On top of that, it has given the IM a regular income with which we used to further develop our work. If you are an IRLA Member, our next tour of EC3, City of London is on 22 April. Please see:
The IM Wall of Supporters
As we re-structure our Wall of Supporters, we will be highlighting the work of our In-Kind support. The Wall is displayed on the website and during every webinar.
Volunteers
Volunteers have supported the IM along its way by carrying out specific one-off tasks or regularly contributing to and advising the IM’s work. In particular, we’d like to highlight, George Worby who writes articles for us, whilst on his travels as the Insurance Tourist, Laura Lagana who offers her accountancy expertise; Yonathan Dessalegn who is planning our oral history programme and advises us on all things insurance; Howard Pearson who provides tours and advice; John Lane who researches and writes articles; Ray Johnson who has great ideas around fundraising; and Jane Byrde who wrote our Collections Policies.
FOIL President’s Charity
The Insurance Museum is the FOIL President, Howard Dean’s, nominated charity for 2025.
Reg Brown Chairman of the Insurance Museum says,
“As a former Liability Underwriter at Lloyd’s and a Past President of the British Insurance Law Association the marriage between Insurance and the Law has been with me throughout my career, evidenced by the fact that the guest speaker at my Mansion House Lunch as President of the Insurance Institute of London in 1995 was none other than Lord Woolf at the time of his Woolf Reforms.
I’m therefore delighted that FOIL’s President, Howard Dean, has chosen the Insurance Museum as his Charity for 2025″
We are looking forward to working with FOIL over the year spreading the word and fundraising for the Insurance Museum.
