Chairman’s Christmas Message

As 2023 draws to a close and Christmas holidays loom, I look back with pride on the achievements made by all the team at Insurance Museum. We now have 5 ‘online galleries’ in our ‘virtual museum’ telling the story of the development of Fire Insurance from the Great Fire of London in 1666 to 1929 when the last insurance company-owned Fire Brigade extinguished a fire before being disbanded.

We look forward to 2024 with optimism and expectation. We are thinking long and hard about what class of business we should feature next in our ‘virtual museum’. We are not flush with money, and we need a sponsor or two, but we have shown what we can achieve with the Fire Galleries.

We continue to look at premises in EC3 suitable for our ‘mini museum’ so that we can start to invite the public and, most importantly, school children to come and learn the incredible story of insurance. Bearing in mind how important a part insurance plays in all of our lives it is surprising how little is known or understood about it by anyone outside the sector. We aim to change that.

I thank all our donors, members and sponsors for their support, the IM Trustees, and the entire IM team for all their hard work and the CII for their continued generosity in allowing us to meet in their premises.

I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.
