Welcome to Crawford & Company

We are delighted to welcome the Museum’s newest corporate partner, Crawford and Company who have pledged to support the Museum over the next three years. Crawford is the largest publicly listed independent provider of claims management and outsourcing solutions globally with nearly 10,000 employees in over 70 countries around the world. Like the Insurance Museum, Crawford knows that behind every claim is a story, so their support will enable us to continue to tell the story of insurance past, present and future. Throughout the partnership, we’ll be working with them to deliver talks and tours on the history of insurance at their events.

Lisa Bartlett, Chief Operating Officer, International, Crawford, said “At a time when the industry is exploring the cutting-edge technology needed to reimagine the claims process and embracing AI, it is important to celebrate our history and achievements. Crawford has been solving claims challenges for over 80 years and what started as an attempt to make milk truck deliveries more efficient has evolved into a global enterprise, solving claims-handling challenges for thousands of businesses around the world. It’s a long, proud history that we share with many other companies and we are proud to support the Insurance Museum in bringing the heritage of the insurance industry to life for future generations.”

Hiscox

The Hiscox Foundation continues to support the museum for a second year, enabling us to further develop our online resources and work towards establishing a physical museum. Our huge thanks to them for supporting our journey.

Other campaigns

There are a number of small grants given out every month, or quarter. Please keep a look out for these and let us know if it may be one the IM can go for. One we regularly apply for is the Movement for Good. The next round will be open in May. We will let you know about it through our Newsletter or from our LinkedIn account. We need nominations, so do keep an eye out and ‘vote’ for us when you see it.

How the Insurance Museum raises income

We fundraise in many ways:

– We ask the insurance community to contribute charitable donations, or sponsorship, as well as build up long-term relationships with businesses.

– We have set up an Insurance Museum Membership (Membership – Insurance Museum), which is an established group of supporters who give £50 a year.

– We have made it easy to donate through the Insurance Museum website (Donate – Insurance Museum), and Just Giving Insurance Museum – JustGiving

– We identify and apply for major grant funding from a variety of foundations and grant givers.

How we spend our income

Your funding helps the Insurance Museum reach its main goal of telling the global story of insurance, past, present, and future. For example:

– The online exhibition Fire! Risk and Revelations – Fire Insurance Gallery – Insurance Museum and to plan further digital exhibitions exploring other key areas like marine insurance.

– School resources to accompany the exhibition.

– Online content, such as articles for the Newsletter and Members’ Area.

– Copy for magazines and journals.

– Give talks to insurance institutes, insurance businesses and other groups.

– Develop insurance history walking tours around EC3 which we are hoping to roll out in the summer.

– Work towards a physical museum.
