Museo Dell’assicurazione visit to London

In early October, the Friends of the Museo Dell’assicurazione (MUDA) in Milan visited London, and on the Friday, they were the guests of the Insurance Museum. We arranged a tour of Lloyd’s of London, followed by a tour of the Insurance District, led by the IM Director, Howard Benge. It was an excellent opportunity to connect with our shared heritage in marine insurance and to highlight early innovations in fire insurance in London, after the Great Fire. Whilst Italy is the birthplace of marine insurance, London is arguably the birthplace of commercial insurance.

We were also hosted by Generali Global Corporate & Commercial at their headquarters in Mark Lane. We had a fascinating presentation about the history of Generali in the UK, dating back to the 19th century, by Generali Corporate Heritage & Historical Archive. The presentation was delivered in Italian for our guests from the Museo Dell’Assicurazione. For those of us whose Italian is piccolo, we enjoyed the slides. Fortunately, the Generali Historical Archive for Generali have written up their presentation in English, and you can read it here:https://heritage.generali.com/en/the-generali-historical-archive-for-generali-gcc/

Our thanks go to Generali Global Corporate & Commercial in London for their welcome and generosity in hosting the Museo Dell’assicurazione and Insurance Museum. We hope to arrange a reciprocal visit in the coming years.
