Conference season

The next few months are going to be busy for the Insurance Museum, as we will be getting out into the Insurance community, starting with the BIBA 2022 conference in Manchester. Later, in June, we’ll be at the MGAA conference in Houndsditch, in the City of London. The Insurance Museum has a stand for both conferences, and we want to thank both BIBA and MGAA who donated them to us free of charge.

We’ll be talking about our plans, showing off our latest digital productions and, perhaps, exhibiting some of the original objects we are using in our upcoming virtual galleries. Our message will be that the Insurance Museum is about the history of insurance, the people it benefits and the events to which insurers have responded. It is not simply a London based activity as insurers and their intermediaries span the whole of the UK. It is vital to us to get out there and meet as many people face to face as we can.

Conferences are not just about telling everyone what we are up to, but also getting to listen to the insurance community and obtaining their feedback about our exciting enterprise. “What would you like to see in the Insurance Museum and how can the Insurance Museum support your work?” We would like to hear what you think and your ideas. Of course, what we really want to hear is that you are going to join us and get involved.

Come and find us to get an update on what we are doing, see how you can get involved, or just to say hello. We’ll certainly be promoting the Insurance Museum Newsletter to get a greater readership, recruiting people for the new Insurance Museum Membership, and connecting with people’s stories. In particular, we want to gain traction for our fundraising campaigns to secure our long-term future and establish a World Class Museum and Research Centre in London EC3. In addition, we will be running a competition to win a prize, generously donated by Stephen and Veronica Wilkinson. Visit us to find out more.

To keep ourselves up to date with the museum world we will also be attending the Museums and Heritage Show in May, and the Association of Independent Museums conference in June. We’ll be sharing our plans and looking at other upcoming innovations in the museum world.

At the BIBA conference our stand is B84 and if you are at the MGAA conference in June, come and find us. We would love to see you at any of these events. Please come and find us. Talk to us and join in with the Insurance Museum story.
